I admit it. I overdo the birthday parties.
I always have, and I hope I always will.
So, when my youngest told me he wanted a Luigi Cake for his birthday.
I say "I can do that!"
Here's the result:

I got the idea from the "Toy Time Galaxy" potion of Super Mario Galaxy.
Where Luigi is floating in space as a lego creation.
and, searching the interwebs, I found this one made out of cupcakes.
Now, there's NO WAY a party of people under 6 is going to eat roughly 170 cupcakes. So, we, (me and my friend Catharine) cut sheetcake into little just over 1 inch squares. Wilton is kind enough to make the coolest icing tints. So deep shades of color are now possible! Happiness. And, she counted squares, asked for a color, I slapped it on the square, and we built the cake.
It's good to get the detail oriented, unemployed scientist off the streets.
Next time, I need to remember to make each cake with a double batch. one sheet cake is not equal to two rounds. This should be a "duh" since I passed geometry in high school, but, I never ever remember.
And no, I don't make cakes other than the 3 or 4 a year for my family. But, if it's malleable, and you can play with it, I'm happy to give it a try.
